I think its important to recognise how your small actions can trigger a series of unfortunate events. For me if I know that there is any chance of that happening later on down the line, I would rather avoid the situation altogether. It doesn’t make you a coward, in my opinion, it makes you a smart passive relationship manager with your acquaintances, peers, family. Which means you are somewhat in control in maintaining positive relationships.
